When I started thinking about the connection between DEI and the Imago Dei, I knew that if I named it, some people would have a problem with it. But, as I continue to reflect on my 40+ years in the Christian church to include four years of seminary and 10 plus years as a pastor, I think I am reasonably qualified to critique the Christian institution and it’s bed fellow American nationalism. There’s nothing sadder than talking to people who once had faith in a Creator who now feel completely disconnected because the imago Church is so unlike the Imago Dei. As much as I miss being in a faith community and trying to create life with folks, I’d much rather just write on Substack and find a regular job. Because if you can’t tell the difference between the church and an attractive corporation, that is the saddest commentary ever.
So in this video, I am naming that too many Americans are anti-DEI because despite their posturing, they are ant-Dei. And that is telling of the country we have been, who we say we want to be, and what we refuse to become.
